Indigo Bunting - Passerina cyanea


This week's painting commission is a male and female Passerina cyanea.

  1. I am so fortunate to have 2 or 3 pair of these drop-dead gorgeous birds visit my feeder daily. I think they are returning family because they come back every year. They are pretty skittish while feeding during the day but feel very comfortable at dusk when the indigo color is muted. I live in the Nantahala forest of Western NC. We have wonderful bird watching here but this species is my favorite.
